With 100,513 people in the 2020 census, Clinton Township is the most populous township in Michigan. It wraps around Mount Clemens, the county seat, on three sides, and Harrison Township lies to the east.
The Clinton River comes together here. Its North Branch and Middle Branch rise in northern Macomb County and join the main branch inside the township, and from there the river runs east into Harrison Township and on to Lake St. Clair.
M-3, Gratiot Avenue, runs through the southeast of the township past Broad Acres. Moravian Drive is the oldest road in the township, and the community of Cady grew up where it meets Utica Road, founded in 1833 by Chauncey G. Cady.

Where three branches of the river meet
Land near the Clinton River and its branches drains toward them, and yards close to the water can stay wet well into spring. On an established lot, a wet yard is most often a grade problem. The ground has settled over the years, or a patio, a shed or a new drive has changed where the water goes.

Established lots and tight access

A new drive onto a county road goes through the Macomb County Department of Roads. M-3 is a state highway, so a drive onto Gratiot involves the Michigan Department of Transportation. Building and zoning questions go to Clinton Township. Confirm with the right office before work starts.
