Lapeer County drives run long
Lapeer County work runs to acreage, and that means long gravel drives. On a long drive the base matters more than the stone on top. Elite Excavating LLC builds and rebuilds gravel driveways across the county from the yard in Capac. Imlay City is about 12 miles away, Almont about 14 and Lapeer about 22.
How a new gravel driveway is built
The drive is cut first. The base is then built and compacted in lifts, which means one layer at a time. The surface is crowned, so water sheds to both sides. A drive built on soft ground with stone thrown over the top of it will rut by spring. One built on a real base does not. Culverts and approaches are part of the same job.
Repairing a drive that has gone bad
Potholes, washboard and ruts get cut out and re-based. They do not just get topped up with more stone. A drive that has lost its shape is regraded and crowned again. You will be told at the estimate which one your drive needs.
Stone, millings and delivery
Driveway stone and gravel are hauled in and spread while the machine is on site. The material goes where it is needed and not into a pile at the end of the drive. For lots and long drives, asphalt millings make a hard, dust-free surface for less than paving. Material can also be delivered on its own. See material hauling.
How the job runs
George comes out, walks the drive with you and gives you a price before any work starts. The estimate is free. Most residential drives take a day or two once the equipment is on site. Long or wet ones take longer. George runs the equipment himself, so the person who priced the drive is the person who builds it.
More for Lapeer County properties
